I was nearly finished drawing that sad, handsome man on the lower right when I was approached by an older guard with a French accent. He told me that I was not allowed to draw with markers at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. “Pencil or ballpoint pen only. To protect the paintings.” Oh, I sighed, I was almost done. “Okay,” He nodded seriously, “But use the utmost care.” He could have been meaner. I’ve met meaner guards. So, when I’d finished the drawing, I found the guard again and asked if I could draw his portrait. “Non, non,” he shook his head, “With all of this here, you should not be looking at me.”
